Sometimes prison is described as living in a fishbowl, but now the Prison to Prosperity Fair is inviting formerly incarcerated entrepreneurs to swim in a shark tank. Not literally, of course.
Think Outside the Cell foundation, the Bronx Clergy Criminal Justice Roundtable, Bronx Borough President Reuben Diaz, Jr,, Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer, the Bronx Reentry Task Force, Lehman College and MetroPlus Health Plan, Inc, are presenting a competition for formerly incarcerated entrepreneurs (and would-be entrepreneurs) that is based on the popular ABC television show Shark Tank.
Like the competitors on Shark Tank, those participating in the “Prison 2 Prosperity Entrepreneurship Challenge” will be able to pitch their business idea to a panel of judges in the hope of having their business chosen to receive a cash prize and expert advice from top business leaders.
The judges of the “Prison 2 Prosperity Entrepreneurship Challenge” are:

Ed Lewis, Founder and CEO of Essence Communications, Inc.
Loida Lewis, Businesswoman, Philanthropist and former Chair of TLC Beatrice International Foods
Genevieve Michel-Bryan , Broadcast Director of Black Enterprises
Jonathan Richter , Managing Director of RREEF, America, LLC
The Fair will be held October 26, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Lehman College in the Bronx. The competition will be divided into two age groups: 16 to 24 years old, and 25 and older.
Workshops include Getting Down to Business: How to Embrace Your Dreams and Avoid Landmines, Money Matters: Financing Your Business, Flooding the Market: Carving Out Your Niche and Attracting Loyal Customers, and Network Marketing: The Great Equalizer.
