The New Haven Independent and the Connecticut Mirror were two of several members of the media that covered the press conference called by faith-based organizations, prisoners' rights activists, and community members to protest the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ decision to close the only federal female correctional institution in the Northeast to convert it to a male facility.
