Truthout tells us that 10,000 babies are born annually to incarcerated mothers in the U.S. In an intriguing op-ed piece Maya Schenwar discusses the emotional and medical benefits of breastfeeding, and supports prison programs that would allow inmates to breast feed their babies, or would at least supply them with breast milk pumps that would allow the breast milk to be frozen and distributed to the babies’ caregivers to be used at feeding time.
