Reentry Central has posted numerous articles relating to the amount states spend on education in relation to the amount spent on incarceration. The bottom line has been that students lose.
Policy.Mic has produced a GIF with comparison spending from almost every state in America. The numbers seem to leap off the page when depicting the amount spent on incarceration, and then sadly receding to a much lower amount when it comes to spending.
What the graph doesn’t show is the racial disparity, broken communities and collateral consequences children face when more money is spent to lock someone up rather than to open up the minds of students.
