New Reentry Initiative researching the needs of incarcerated mothers, their children and their children’s caregivers
Since 2003, Project Reentry, a program under the Criminal Justice Program of the Piedmont Triad Regional Council, has been assisting incarcerated men and women to successfully reintegrate back into the community. The mission of Project Reentry is to reduce recidivism, cut criminal justice costs and increase public safety. Project Reentry is in partnership with Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina.
Over the years the number of incarcerated women has greatly increased, prompting the need for gender specific programs. Project Reentry is pleased to announce a new initiative funded by the Women’s Fund of the Winston Salem Foundation. The goal of the initiative is to use the funding to better assist women released from the North Carolina prison system, their children, and also to aid the children of currently incarcerated mothers and their caregivers.
To achieve this goal, Project Reentry is has put together a questionnaire to survey the needs of criminal-justice involved women, their children and the caregivers of children of incarcerated mothers. The survey will require only the first name of the participant, and that name will be CONFIDENTIAL. We will use the information gathered from the questionnaire to provide better services. We hope that the results of this survey will enable us to address the best interest of children of incarcerated mothers.
We are asking for your help in promoting participation in this survey to the following population:
Mothers who had minor children while incarcerated
Mothers whose parental rights were intact while incarcerated
Criminal-justice involved mothers with a history of domestic violence
Children who have or had an incarcerated mother
Caregivers of children of incarcerated mothers
