Investigation reveals poor medical care is just the tip of the iceberg encountered by pregnant women in prison
Since 2010 Reentry Central has posted articles on the horrible experiences of pregnant women in prison. Five years later, although many states have made serious efforts to provide adequate medical care and make birthing behind bars less traumatic, there is still a deep rooted problem of neglect and indifference in prisons and jails throughout the country that has led to dead newborns and seriously ill mothers.

On September 28 In These Times published the findings of an investigation that found instances of miscarriages, stillbirths, life threatening complications due to pre- and post natal medical neglect and gut wrenching accounts of the women who experienced them.
