Guide includes what you need to know before you get started, how to launch your campaign and examples and resources for strategies, activities, and tactics
From Youth First Initiative:

We’re excited to release a new toolkit, Ready to Launch: A Campaign Starter Toolkit to Close Youth Prisons, that will help grassroots campaigns reach our shared goal of closing youth prisons and invest in community-based alternatives to incarceration all across the country. We are committed to supporting community campaigns of every size, so our new campaign starter toolkit gives step-by-step instructions from the beginning of a campaign, through a successful launch and beyond.

Nearly 50,000 young people are struggling daily in outdated youth prisons, detention centers, and other out-of-home placements across the country. It isn’t safe, it isn’t fair, and it doesn’t work. Yet, states continue to spend an average of $150,000 per year to confine a youth and still devote the vast majority of their juvenile justice spending to youth prisons, spending more than $5 billion per year. This toolkit shows step by step how you can take action and work to close youth prisons and keep kids out of prison.

The guide includes:

  • Key ingredients in a successful campaign

  • What you need to know before you get started

  • Tips on getting started and engaging people

  • How to launch your campaign

  • Examples and resources for strategies, activities, and tactics

We encourage you to share it with your teams and allies, in your own communities and across the country. We believe that these tactics will help us work together to make a difference in the lives of our nation’s children. You can view the guide and steps on our website or download the full kit here.
