This year, we have been encouraged by the number of criminal justice reforms happening around the country. Florida voters passed Amendment 4, restoring voting rights to as many as 1.4 million people with felony convictions. This week, President Trump endorsed legislation with sentencing provisions we have long advocated for on Capitol Hill, including the reduction of some mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses. At The Sentencing Project, we've been proud to have contributed to this national momentum for a more fair and effective criminal justice system, as we have for over three decades.
I'm pleased to share with you some of our recent activities in our 2018 Annual Newsletter. Highlights include:
Documenting the growing number of state felony disenfranchisement reforms ahead of the midterm election
Describing the changes in policy and practice that enabled five diverse states to substantially reduce their prison populations
Reporting on the unique challenges of female incarceration

Working with advocates in Maryland and Kentucky to counter punitive policies
