Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed legislation this week to require the collection of prosecutorial data statewide. State’s attorneys will compile detailed information on prison sentences, plea deals, and diversionary programs, broken down by race, ethnicity, gender, age, and other demographics. The new law also provides an opportunity for public testimony on the appointment, reappointment, removal or discipline of state’s attorneys, and creates a pilot project for indigent defense at parole revocation hearings. The first-in-the-nation prosecutorial transparency legislation was passed unanimously in the House and Senate.
