White Collar Criminal Defense College Set to Open
Date:  07-27-2011

First of its kind “boot camp” program focuses on effectively defending white collar defendants
It was only a matter of time before a university set up a college that helped criminal defense lawyers hone their skills in representing a rapidly growing segment of defendants. Indictments of white collar criminals seem to pop up in the media almost daily, as the U.S. government aggressively pursues those involved in financial crimes.

The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and Stetson University of Law, located in Florida, recently announced that a new “boot camp” style program will open at Stetson in early 2012. The partnership of Stetson, which bills itself as the “leading advocacy law school in the country,” and NACDL, perhaps the leading defense organization in the U.S., is expected to provide defense attorneys with new skills and training in the area of white collar criminal defense.

Courses on subjects including corporate investigations, representing top management, middle management and other employees will be given, according to Stetson University. Other topics to be covered are: grand jury investigations relating to corporate documents, handing parallel proceedings (such as investigations by both the SEC and IRS), and sentencing issues particular to white collar defendants.
