"New Beginnings" program helps incarcerated women "heal...and stand tall"
From Lancaster Oline :

Standing before dozens of Lancaster County’s emerging professional leaders Friday, Kim Martinez shared parts of her life that many people avoid discussing at all costs.

Dressed in business attire at a Leadership Lancaster event focusing on the criminal justice system, Martinez, 35, spoke unflinchingly about finding herself 12 years ago in Lancaster County Prison, eight months pregnant with her first child.

In front of strangers wearing Oxford shirts and holding coffee cups, the Lancaster native also talked about overcoming an abusive marriage and fighting for custody of her children.

“At the end of the day, everyone has a past. But the beauty of it is that when we face reality, we get to tap into (something) and heal,” said Martinez, now a property manager. “And when we get to heal, that’s when you get to show up as yourself and be able to stand tall.”
