In Summary, this study emphasizes the urgent need to reform how the criminal justice system responds to mental illness. Greater emphasis should be placed on prevention, early intervention, treatment, rehabilitation, and community support rather than punishment alone. A more healthcare-oriented and rehabilitative approach would not only improve mental health outcomes but also reduce crime and recidivism in the long term.
